Our Bodies are Holy

Vitruvian Man, 1492, Leonardo DaVinci’s sketch of a naked man. There are some simple facts from the Word of God that many Christians overlook. The Bible teaches that our bodies are holy. Our bodies are the Temples of the Holy Ghost. It even says to present your bodies, holy and acceptable to God, as a living sacrifice. Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (NKJV)

In Genesis we are told that God made our bodies, and He made them good. Genesis 1:34 “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” Our feelings, our five senses are not just being kept pure by the things that we avoid. No, our bodies with all of their senses are pure.

Yes, we can defile our bodies by how we use them, but the experience of our five senses - sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch - the normal functioning of my physical body is a pure thing. The enjoyment of good food is pure. Savouring its fragrance and flavour, is pure. The sensation of the wind on my face is pure. The visual and tactile enjoyment of the physical beauty of God’s creation is pure.

Our Sexual Sensations are Holy

And have you
ever noticed
He arranged that
our sexual organs
would be within
easy reach.

And the stirrings of my sexuality that happen through sight, and touch, and smell, and taste, are also pure and holy and undefiled before God. The giving and receiving of sensual intimate pleasure within the life-long covenant of marriage is a high and holy act. When two Temples of the Holy Ghost become One Glorious Temple during the act of ultimate human intimacy, what a delight to the husband, what a joy to the wife, and what a delight and joy to God!

And, when that is not available, the simple act of enjoying of our own body through touch and solitary stimulation is also holy, pure, and undefiled. God designed us to respond to these things, as well as to images, and imagination. Our becoming aroused and erect is part of God’s wonderful plan. Even the fact that we sometimes awake in the morning with a “hard on” is His way of providing an easy erection for us to enjoy.

And have you ever noticed He arranged that our sexual organs would be within easy reach. He could have put them somewhere else, where only a marriage partner would have access. But no, our hands are at our sides and our genitals are right there. You would almost think that He did that intentionally. Well, He did. And all we have to do is to reach over, caress, stroke, enjoy the mounting pleasure, and bring ourselves to orgasm and ejaculation.

Psalm 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvellous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
