The “Sin” God Forgot To Mention
It seems that everyone from Catholic Priests to Charismatic Preachers think that Solo Sex is a major sin that will displease God and hinder your life in Him. They lump it in with the other sexual sins; fornication, adultery, homosexual sex, bestiality, incest - and masturbation. But there is only one problem with this list. It is like one of those quizzes which give a list and ask you to identify the one thing that does not belong. Fornication, adultery, homosexual sex, bestiality, and incest all belong because they are all clearly mentioned in the Bible as things that God forbids. (And they are not solitary activities.) The one thing that God does not forbid anytime or anywhere is solo sex. Let me prove it to you.
The Word of God indicates that not only can God not lie, He is not shy. If He wants to let us know He disapproves of something, He doesn’t hide His displeasure in obscurity, or conceal it in darkness or under a veil of mystery. No, even in sexual matters He comes right out and says exactly what He means in clear and detailed terms. He says, “This is forbidden. Don’t do it; don’t even think about it.”
Need proof? Well, there’s plenty, in both Old and New Testaments.
Forbidden Sexual Activities (Sins)
In Leviticus 18 the Word of God says to not have sex with your:
- father (Leviticus 18:7).
- mother (Leviticus 18:7).
- father's wife (Leviticus 18:8).
- sister (Leviticus 18:9).
- son's daughter (Leviticus 18:10).
- daughter's daughter (Leviticus 18:10).
- daughter of your father's wife (Leviticus 18:11).
- father's sister (Leviticus 18:12).
- mother's sister (Leviticus 18:13).
- father's brother (Leviticus 18:14).
- father's brother's wife (Leviticus 18:14).
- daughter-in-law (Leviticus 18:15).
- brother's wife (Leviticus 18:16).
- a woman and her daughter (Leviticus 18:17).
- a woman and her son's daughter (Leviticus 18:17).
- a woman and her daughter's daughter (Leviticus 18:17).
- your wife in addition to her sister, as rivals (Leviticu18:18).
- your neighbour's wife (Leviticus 18:20).
- your own gender (Leviticus 18:22).
- an animal (Leviticus 18:23).
And to make sure we really get the point, fornication, sex between the unmarried, is forbidden in many places, as are adultery, sex with someone other than your spouse, and homosexual activity (sex with your own gender.)
Ephesians 5:3 – 5 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. (NKJV)
1 Corinthians 6: 9 – 10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. (NKJV)
Sometimes Horney People Are Disobedient
But humans get horney, and horney people don’t always obey the Word of God. This is true today. It was also true in ancient Israel. And when we disobey we suffer the consequences.
Take, for example, Ezekiel 16:25 – 26. “You built your high places at the head of every road, and made your beauty to be abhorred. You offered yourself to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your acts of harlotry. 26 You also committed harlotry with the Egyptians, your very fleshly neighbors, and increased your acts of harlotry to provoke Me to anger. 27 “Behold, therefore, I stretched out My hand against you, diminished your allotment, and gave you up to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your lewd behavior.” (NKJV)
Throughout the whole chapter God chastises them for their immorality. This happens many times. God’s people disobey. God chastises them. They repent. God blesses them again. This cycle repeats itself over and over again.
But, do you see what I see? Not once in these scriptures, or anywhere else in the Bible for that matter, is masturbation ever mentioned directly, or in any negative way. The prophets pronounced stern warnings again this and that and everything else, but you don’t hear them ever say, “and you went into your secret chamber and jerked off, so God has condemned you.” And you can be sure it wasn’t because no one was doing it!
If God was so concerned about it why did He omit it? In fact, would He omit it every single time sexual sins were mentioned? All He had to say was, “And by the way, I want you to stop playing with yourself.” After all, masturbation is the most prevalent sexual experience. But did He, ever? No; not once.
So, God never once condemns self stimulation and solo orgasms, yet many Christian leaders not only identify it as being forbidden, they include it in with things that God clearly says will separate you from fellowship with Him. Well clearly something is wrong with this picture.
Our “Forgetful” God
What is wrong is that these priests and preachers act like God left something out. They are wiser than the Almighty and able to correct His oft repeated mistake.
“Hey God, you did a good job with Your list of sins, especially the sexual ones, but you left something out. Maybe You were distracted that day, or forgetful. Anyway Lord, You will be glad to know that we have corrected the problem. In our great wisdom we have added Solo Sex to the list of “forbiddens.” It was a bit of a stretch of logic and reasoning, but we managed to do it. Since you neglected to mention it your otherwise complete and exhaustive lists of sexual sins (good job by the way there God!), we had to “apply scriptural principles.” And yes, we know it made a lot of people very unhappy, even made them feel guilty all the time. In fact, some were “overcome in the struggle,” and could never come to “victory.” They got so discouraged they even gave up following You because of it. But, we are sure You understand that it had to be done.”
Yes, I know this is nonsense. But no more so than the religious rule that says sexual self pleasuring is sinful in the eyes of our Holy God.
